Sultry, cool and eccentric are words that best describe the jazz
singer-composer-musician Jevette. The North Mesquite High School graduate
was born and raised in Dallas, and currently attends Richland College, majoring
in music and business. Winning a talent contest at the age of seventeen
was the beginning of Jevette’s journey. From there, she has gone on to win
dozens of competitions which have translated into media attention, festival
appearances and a week in Las Vegas. Yvonne Wright Wills eloquently
stated: Jevette presents a statuesque physical appearance that although
it matches the image one may have of her as a guitar wielding, totally engrossed
musician, it does not match the sweet tones and smooth cadence of her vocal
responses.
Jevette's unique configuration produces a style that can only be described
as unique and eclectic, combining her rich voice with melding of rock, folk,
R&B and jazz. Accessible through venue favorites such as The Gypsy
Tea Room and Deep Ellum Live, Jevette can also be heard on K104 and festivals
including the International Blues Festival and Fort Worth's Caravan of Dreams.
Recognition has already started to arrive, as Jevette was nominated for
the Dallas Observer 2002 Music Awards R&B category, which pitted her
agains Erica Badu. Jevette’s first CD, entitled "Everything Begins
with One" is now available.
